Our office is in the 630 Area Code and AT&T (our local carrier) made some changes this weekend. 10 digits must be used to call a 630 # within the 630 Area code also. However, starting today, when we dialed any 630 number, we could not get through and got an error message. We were dialing 1 + 630 + as of last Friday.
I called AT&T as well as Qwest (long distance provider) and they both said things looked OK on their side. I went into our switch and saw the ARS for that number was:

16 11 11 FNPA (Foreign Numbering Plan)

I played around with it and changed the call type to HNPA (Home Numbering Plan). This fixed the issue.
Can anyone explain to me why this would work?
Thanks..

The entry you are showing covers you if the caller dials a one first. You probably need another entry with 6 10 10 to cover when they don't. You also probably need to alter the route that your current entry points to so it deletes one character, the 1.

Just remembered when I set up ARS for our Downers Grove office I had to narrow it down to 630515 because the area code was not all local.

How does the switch handle calls that are of call type HNPA as opposed to FNPA? What do they actually mean?

HNPA = Home Numbering plan area, FNPA = Foreign Numbering Plan Area..
It is used in your routing patterns in conjunction with your prefix mark to tell the system to add or drop the 1...

here is a table I pulled from the ARS course CD...
