Are you religious about firmware upgrades?

I was wondering how many of you are current with firmware upgrades on your Avaya systems. All of my cards are several versions of firmware behind and I was contemplating making them current. Everything is working fine though so I don't really see a point in doing it, you know the old if it ain't broke don't fix it mentality. I have also seen a post warning not to upgrade DS1 firmware cause it could cause the card to stop working. Just wanting to get opinions on the topic and a feel for what my peers are doing out there.

Thanks,

Dave

I say stick with your gut mentality and don't touch it. The only reason that I have upgraded firmware, say to my CLANS and MedPros is because Avaya forced my hand to work on an issue. It's disturbing that they make you update before working on an issue and the update is usually not the cure.

As for your DS1's, I would definitely not touch them. Those cards are workhorses and really don't need the update. Mine are way behind, but they work and I have no issues with them.

I have had to do the CLAN and MEDPRO updates at a prior workplace for the same reason and it did not resolve my issues either. The Avaya support center really leaves something to be desired. It's pretty pathetic that they won't even answer a simple question about programming without wanting to start the juice running on you.

Thanks for the response.

On new installs we always load the latest firmware, after that only when its broke.

We check and load current firmware once a year or so unless Avaya tells us that we NEED to sooner. Its good to keep everything current IMO.

I've taken to getting religious on the CLAN and MEDPRO/XFIRE flashes given the number of voice quality issues that people run into on their networks. Even if it is not the ultimate cure, the latest revs have improved some of the IP handling issues. It also does greatly quicken the pace if Denver gets involved.

With so many bugs in software or firmware, I only install the new firmware when we have a problem with something. That is what Avaya is going to tell you when you do so I get that out of the way so we can work on the REAL problem.

I have kept this system fairly simple, so I have fewer problems. No ESS, LSP, modular messaging, IP Orifice I mean Office [wink] or VoIP , so I don't have the problems that most do that can be pointed back at the firmware or upgradeable packs.

Hell, there are no rules here - we're trying to accomplish something.
