When you restar the tape engine is it normal for it to want to update every slot? It's taking hours!

Hi,

How many slots do you have?
Run the device config, when you are prompted with an option to enable "Library quick initialization" enable the option..

hope this helps

Does your Library have a Barcode reader? If so, this should speed up the inventory process, after the first time it is invetoried and as long as you have enabled the Barcode setting...

Also, make sure that you start the Database Engine first, then the Tape Engine, this way the tape info can be retrieved from the DB and does not have to be read off each tape.

yes it is normal, how ever there is a Quick Init option that can be selected in the Device Configuration utility. Word of warning, if any tapes are changed while the Tape Engine is stopped an inventory or mount must be done to update the Tape Engine.
