Unfortunately, there was NO knowledge transfer and it appears as though none of the backups were ever up and running. I have installed the ARCserve 2000 v7 software on my desktop and I cannot see the HPStorageWorks SSL202. There are a bunch of wizards but, I don't see anywhere that I can surf the internal network to find the device to connect to it. Can someone help me?

The device manager is the place to be to see which hardware is attached to your backup server.
But before ARCserve can see anything the devices must be visible within the Windows Device manager (2000) of System (NT).
You mention you installed ASCserve on a desktop, is that the same machine the SSL202 in connected to ??

regards

No - this machine is my laptop and it is on the same network. I was hoping to connect to the SSL2020 from my laptop so I could run backups anytime and debug problems from anywhere but, it doesn't look like I can do that.

I will use the information you have provided above to move past this hurdle.

Thank you for your help.

You can do this anyway : by installing the manager part of arcserve on a machine like your laptop you should be able to simpy connect to the ARCserve server part on the machine the SSL2020 is connected to and manage it.

I have found ArcServe 7 very hard to troubleshoot. We use an internal Exabyte VXA2 drive and ArcServe insists on using its own drivers - which meant uninstalling the drivers Windows 2000 loaded, in device manager it appears but with an exclamation point, and the drive had to be renamed - Ecrix VXA1.

Now I have a database corruption problem - still working on it. Strongly considering purchasing Veritas software......

Wow, you are scaring me!;-)
I am plugging away. Unfortunately, I am flying blind. I just found the whole permissions section in the Tech Support Notes that was very helpful. I am making progress but, it is slow!
I am currently recieving the following message:

Backup Wizard
An error occurred while submitting the job.
ARCserve Job Queue Error (5).

If you know anything about this error and what I'm doing wrong - please help!

Thank you!

I think I am close!

I have all the permissions set and used the Backup Wizard to initiate a backup immediately. Unfortunately, it just seems to be sitting there. When I access the Job Manager I see that it is was requested to <run now> and is in the Status "ready". I have the Job Monitor up and it says "Job Type - Backup" and "status - ready" and there is not other data. I think it is waiting for me to do something - I just don't know what. I have read through the Getting Started again and it seems that there isn't anything that it is waiting for me to do and that it should be backing up.

Help!
