Arcserve Error 3537 Failed to Connect to Media but SOME jobs run help!

I'm recieving the &quot;E3537: Failed to connect to media <media name> EC=27&quot; error on one of my Windows NT servers running AS 6.61 SP2a build 834.

There are two jobs that run on this instance of Arcserve, a server and a desktop job. The server job runs fine, daily, weekly, monthly, etc. -- The desktop job almost never runs...I'd say maybe 5% of the time, it will run -- the rest of the time, it doesn't run and I am greeted with a slew of the above error in the Activity Log.

If anyone can help me out here, I'd really appreciate it -- I inherited the backup system from previous generations of employees who all stuck their hands in it different places, so maybe it's just a setting somewhere that one of them screwed up. Thanks in advance for any help on this issue.

Also, in the Activity Log before the job is supposed to run, I guess while it's looking for the tapes it says:

Media is not in scratch set DESKTOPS_DLY.

When I check the scratch set, the tapes are in there.

Update: I have replaced the tape drive with a brand new one, and it still does not work! It will run the server backup fine (slots 5-7), but it will still not run the desktop backup job, saying it can't find the tapes (error 3537) -- yet the tapes are in there!

Anyone help please!!
