I am not able to start the database engine. Any suggestions?

I tried running the utilities but I could not get pass the username and password. Is there a default username and password?

I tried that, did not work.

What version of arcserve are you using? admin;secret is only for previous versions of arcserve. For Brightstor arcserve try casdb;secret

i.e - dbcheck -a -L casdb;admin;secret DBNAME

I am using arcserve 2000.

At this point, I want to start a new database. How do I go about doing so?

Go into the ARCserve Server Admin. Select Admin, Highlight the Database Engine tab and from the Operation menu select Initialize Database.

Can't intitalize the database because the engine does not start.

do you get any message when you try to start the db service ?

It does not return an error.

I have seen this with arcserve stopping an engine but not starting - the situation I had was the DB engine was stuck on stopping under computer management -> services - the only way around this was to reboot the server - the problem I have is that I get an error "[CAT] Failed to login to ARCserveIT database.(EC=-2005)" after each backup - sometimes the backup job runs but I still get this error message - any help greatly appreciated

I'm having the same problem as aaync. No db engine start. No error in the log. It may be an uninstall and reinstall at this point. Any thoughts?

Hi everyone

I had this same problem last week, and running dbfix did not solve it. My ArcServe DB was Three GB big, so finally I stopped the dbfix and restored the DB. I restored the Database from an older tape set (Sep '03) that was half the size and I was able to start the database. After this I initialized the DB without problems.

HTH

Kind regards
