Hi,

using our Windows Server 2000 with ARCServe 9.0 (Build 2100) we are are running against a wall when trying to take a brick level backup of our recently upgraded Exchange 2003 Server.

The Exchange Server has been upgraded from a version 5.5 to 2003 as well has the server been upgraded to Windows 2003. The old server has been taken down, but the Exchange 2003 has not been set to native mode yet. We installed the ARCServe Exchange Client and run the "Exchange Cient Configuration" without problems, so everything should be just fine...

But, when starting a brick level backup, the process aborts with an error E8601 stating that the user has not been granted the requested logon type to dbaexch2 of the mail server.

Thanks for your answers

Markus

All patches from the 9.01 Update up to the latest Service Pack are already installed on both the Backup Server and all ARCServe clients.

Backup Agent Service Account Requirements
To perform a Brick Level backup and restore job, your backup agent service
account must meet the following criteria on the Exchange Server.
For Exchange Server 2000 and 2003:
- The account must have a domain user with a mailbox.
- The account must be added to the Domain Admins group on your domain
controllers and to the Administrators group and Backup Operators group on
your Exchange Server.
Note: If your Exchange Server is your domain controller, you must add all
three groups to your backup agent service account only on your domain
controller.
- The account must be assigned the following rights:
– Act as part of the operating system
– Log on locally
– Log on as service
- The account must be assigned roles at the Organization, Site, and
Configuration levels of the organization tree.
- The account must be assigned the Owner permission level on every public
folder you intend to back up and restore because permissions for public
folders can vary. If a lower permission level is assigned, back up or restore
may fail or duplicate items may be restored because the backup agent service
account does not have the permission to delete original documents.
For Exchange Server 5.5:
- The account must have a domain user with a mailbox.
- If your Exchange Server is on a member server, the account must be added to
the Administrators group and the Backup Operators group. If your Exchange
Server is on a domain controller, the account must be added to the Domain
Admins, Administrators, and Backup Operators groups.
Note: If your Exchange Server is your domain controller, you must add all
three groups to your backup agent service account only on your domain
controller.
- The account must be assigned the following rights:
– Act as part of the operating system
– Log on locally
– Log on as service
Note: If you have a multi-domain environment or you are installing on a
member server, you must add these rights on the domain controllers.
