I have a Backup job backing up over the network, the speed is brutally slow 10mb a minute. I have changed the Nic card speed to 100Full and also on the switch side. It hasnt changed the speed. Any other idea's?

what tape drive is it you are using, and the version of arcserve - also do you get the same slow performance if you backup locally ?

The Media type is DLTIV its the same speed on a single DLT tape drive as when I change it to a Dell PV-120T-DLTAL, its over the network. The locall job on that tape drive runs as fast as it can at 350MB a minute.

Set the NIC to fixed 100mb/s instead of auto.

Sometimes a sharing of resources between the NIC and something else can cause this problem.

If all else fails try a new network cable or even a crossover cable to avoid the switch, just as a test only to see if it is related to the switch.

Has it always been like this, or did it just start? Do you have other backups that are working fine, speedwise?

I have set the speed to 100mb full on the switch and NIC, the Network cable maty be a possibiltiy, I'll try that next.

There are 9 servers backing up to One tape drive, 7 of the 9 have good backup speed, the other 2 are backing up at 10mb.I have already changed the Nic to 100 Full and all the switch ports associated.I have enough time through the night to finish the backup but it starting to get personal and I want to fix it.

Thanks

I resolved a similar issue by enabling flow control on the switch port connected to the backup client.
