Odd one this. I have set this up several times before, but this time I've missed something.

Setting up a test network for some upgrading, I've installed 2 x win2k servers, with all recent service packs, Arcserve 2000, with sp5 on one server (pdc), and exchange 2000 sp3 on the other (bdc).

I have installed the Arcserve 2000 client agent (with sp5) on the exchange server, and after the usual struggle to get the agent installed, all seems to be correct.

But, Arcserve sees the exchange computer, but doesn't see it's an exchange server - I am not offered the databases, or bricks etc, just a standard looking Win2k server.

Any idea what the problem might be?

Thanks.

the Client Agent will only show the data volumes, the Exchange DB Agent has to be installed on the system running Exchange Server in order to see Exchange in the ARCserve backup browser.

Hi, sorry I got kinda side-tracked there . . .

The exchange agent is installed - in fact both the nt/2000 and exchange db agents are installed on the exchange server. Arcserve is installed on another 2k server.

It will happpily do brick level backups (which I don't want), but although the exchange server appears on the list (ie the little yellow platters icon), it can't be expanded, and if I select it to backup it fails immediately, without giving any info at all as to why - all I get is 'backup failed'.

Still not solved. Boy have I wasted a lot of time on this!

Hi..
On the exchange server.. go to the registry.. and drill down to the DSAgent reg key..

you should see a value like.. IsExch2000 .. is this set to 1 or 0..
if it is set to 0 .. set it to 1 ..

So it Shall be Written!
So it Shall be Done!!

Bingo!

Thanks Speshalyst. Nailed it.

That's a major headache solved. Much appreciated.

Oh, just for anyone stumbling on this thread - my registry didn't have the key at all. You go into the registry and go to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\ARCserveIT\DSAgent\CurrentVersion\agent\dbaexch

Add a new Dword, call it IsExch2000 and set the value to 1.
