Arcserve 11.5 vs Backup Exec 10

Hello All,

I know the question of which software has been asked many times but I am interested in comparing Arcserve with Backup Exec.

We currently are on Arcserve 9.0. We have two installations. 1 on our Netware fileserver that also backs up our GroupWise machine, and another that is on a Windows 2003 box with SQL 2005. The Windows install has always worked great but the Netware install has been horrible. I have to blow away the backup DB and merge the tape I want to restore from each time I need to pull from backup.

I have heard 11.5 is much better. We have a consultant who works with us and reccomendations either of the two above products. Any comments or suggestions when looking at those two?

What functionality are you looking for?

Are your backups large?

Are your backups being done to disk or tape?

Do you need replicas?

For the Netware install I need basic file backup and the ability to backup GroupWise.
For the Windows install I need basic file backup, the ability to backup active directory and the ability to backup SQL databases.

The backup on Netware is about 200 GB and is backed up to an Ultrium 2.

The backup on Windows is about 2 GB and is backed up to a DLT drive.

Don't need replication.

Anyone using either of these two products? A couple of lines on what you thing of them would be greatly apreciated.

Both products do what you want. I personally hate any CA product, especially arcserve and would recommend using a Veritas/Symantec product any day.
