Ok, my computer with Microsoft ME died on me. I had to install XP. Before I did that, I tried to archive my email in Outlook with a Personal Folder File. I burned the files onto CD. Now that I have Windows XP, I cannot import the archives (security reasons I think). Does anyone know how to import the files again, cause' all I am getting is:

FILE ACCESS IS DENIED. You do not have permission, blah, blah, blah.

Could someone please help me out. I feel like a total moron not being able to get these important emails back.

Thanks a million!

You need to copy the file off the cd and onto your hard drive. Then, right click on the file, Properties, uncheck Read only. Then you will need to take ownership of the file. Use xp's Help and Support to read about 'take ownership'.

Can't seem to take ownership of the file (I right clicked and didn't find the security option for the file - only the folder it was in). I have tried Exporting and Opening the file. It starts telling me it isn't a personal in box folder, even though the file has the extension ".pst ". Thanks for helping out.

Thanks for the reply SMAH.

I took a slightly experimental route by taking my old office directory that I had copied onto CD and overwrote the current XP version I had. Even though they were installed on different operating systems, it seemed to work and now I am content.
Thanks

P.S. why in the hell doesn't windows show all directories to access under your user name such as the local settings directory???????????????

To answer your P.S. comment...the files are hidden as a precaution. Many a Window users have deleted necessary directories without really understand what the directories are for.

You can just change this setting in FOLDER OPTIONS - VIEW under Windows Explorer. joegz
