Archive Error "The Operation Failed"

Hi all, when archiving files in outlook (98 and above) i get the following error:
Error while archiving folder "Deleted Items" in store "Mailbox - mailboxname". The file ...\archive.pst could not be accessed.
I can archive to the pst when outlook is first opened, as long as archive.pst is not open. after accessing the pst file i can no longer archive and get the error "The Operation Failed." To archive again i have to close archive.pst then restart outlook.
Any ideas?
one point of interest, archive.pst is on a network drive. when i copy it to a local drive the archive operation works ok.

PST files can sometimes be a problem when they start getting large while being stored on a network location. Moving them to the local drive sometimes is the solution and then just make regular backups of the file to your network location.

hey joegz,

thanks for your reply. i have started off with an empty pst file, user eperiences same prob. it only happens for this one user, got me stumped. also it only occurs on the file server that is holding the user data (if i access the pst file from another network share it works ok).
