Archive a Mailbox to PST? 1

As a server side action, is there a simple way I can just archive a user's mailbox to PST prior to purging it?

I have this exact same issue. We have mailboxes over 5 GB and Using Outlook's Archive to PST is slow and tedious. I have a had time believing that MS does not have a tool to do this directly from Exchange 2003. The ExMerge tool linked above seems to have a few issues with 2003.

Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

The Exmerge tool has no issues with Exchange 2003, assuming you're using the 2003 version. It does, however, only support ANSI .pst files, which have a 2GB limit. You can split the mail into various .pst files if you specify a cutoff date and make multiple passes.

There are no other tools besides Outlook and Exmerge from Microsoft.

You can exmerge and narror down by dates as well, give you a better shot at the smaller pst's.

I exmerge by year for large mailboxes. Seems to work.

I was actually already using (or trying to use) Exmerge but I ran into issues so wanted to check if there was any better way of doing it.

The issue I ran into was that the account I was logged into (Exchange 2003) apparently doesn't have the appropriate rights to allow Exmerge archiving to PST. I was under the impression it was the 'Daddy' account, but apparently not.

Now I have been informed of the account to use that is supposed to have the correct permissions, but have yet to try it out as I ended up doing the PST manually.
