approach to excel

I am not very familiar with Approach, and need to talk a computer novice through transferring his approach database into an excel spreadsheet over the phone. I am having difficulty finding any simple explanations online. Does anyone know any web resources I can go to or can give me some details in getting help with this?

The Approach data is probably in one or more dBase (.dbf) files. Excel can open dbf files through the File menu!
