We just had new servers installed, and since then when our users sign in, the pc's take a long time signing in. They sit on the screen that says "Applying your computer settings".
We have roaming profiles set up. Our network people told me I have a lot on my profile and desktop. My PC takes 10 min or so.

We turned off roaming profiles for me and I deleted my server's image of my hard drive, but my PC still takes 10min.

Our network people can't seem to figure this one out.

Any suggestions or questions would be so helpfull.

Thanks

Gary

See if my notes in this FAQ help. I suspect the issue is not the size of the profile, per se, but some difficulty in finding your DC: faq779-4017

XP handles this initial chore in a very different way than does earlier versions of Windows, including Win2k.

The other thing would be to check your default domian policy. Make sure noting is enabled you dont need.

I'll take a look.

Thanks very much for the help.

This ia actually a known problem with Microsoft, and I have ran into this myself. You can search thew KB at MS and get the same answer but here it is, it is a WINS/DNS issue. Point your DNS and WINS on the client system to the server running DNS and WINS, logout and back in, you will see the difference. If not this, then make an entry into your lmhost file for your server.

See thread779-578768 which points you to thread779-540080 where you should read all the comments (mine on Sept 27 and 30, 2003 said how I fixed the problem I had).

Log in as Administrator, change the XP computer from domain to a workgroup. Reboot. Deleted the computer account (not user account) from the server. Rejoin the domain. Reboot. Is login any faster?

If you use DHCP:

IPCONFIG /RELEASE
IPCONFIG /RENEW

You could also try to make sure that Slow Link Detection in GP isn't Enabled and has a limit on the speed of ur connection to ur server. I hope what I said is true, doens't Slow Link do that?
