Applications launched from Notes not in Taskbar on Terminals

We have been trialling thin terminals here and have found an annoying problem. If you launch an attachment in Notes (ie, a word doc), word will open but the Notes session seems to disappear; however when you close the launched app, Notes reappears. We are running in them in standard desktop mode (where they have a taskbar etc) but still no joy. I updated one to the latest verison of CE (a T5300) and the latest ICA client to no avail. Any ideas?
