Application testing

Hi All

I've recently started working with a company that designed a suite of financial applications for private and public schools. Although we don't personally install this program on citrix many of our customers have. This eventually leads to problems and its unknown if it our app causing it or inexperienced administrators. I wouldn't make this assumption if it weren't for the customer that has no problem running it on citrix.

I guess what I'm looking for is a program or resource that will test this application. I've herd of citratest and wonder if anyone has had any experience with this or any other program.. Is this a good application qualifier for citrix???? Thank you for your assistance

I'd never heard of it before you mentioned it, but it looks quite useful. It doesn't promise to actually solve server-based issues (the most important ones, IMO), merely to assist in baselining and stress-testing - although that is not to belittle the importance of stress-testing.

The best way to find out about how any application behaves over Citrix is to actively use it in a test lab. Stress-testing is just a part of what you need to do. Much of the application tuning would be in terms of the multi-user environment, so you could make a reasonable number of assumptions about your companys product performace over Citrix just by running it over RDP on a single Terminal Server. As a suggestion, get people in-house to "eat their own dog food" for a short time each day. It can be painful - but IME it leads to rapid development!

Tools such as Filemon and Regmon can help developers as much as Administrators.
