I would have thought this would be a more common question, but i didn't see it anywhere--

Is it possible to append the results of a CR8.5 report into an existing Excel File? It would work to have them append exactly the same way they dump into a new file...or if I can map fields, even better!

Not possible with Crystal, but you can use a 3rd-party Crystal utility to add the export as a new Tab or replace an existing tab within an Excel workbook.

If you explain the situation in more detail, it may be possible to suggest a better approach.

Essentially, I've done away with reporting in crystal-- excel is far easier, and I can leave my users to create whatever charts they want when they want them...I just intend to create a daily data dump into a spreadsheet with a generic set of charts, and they can play from there-- by far the least time-consuming option that i can find, if I can just find a way to not have to copy and paste data every time I dump it...ideas? Recommendation on a 3rd party software that will append to a sheet?

Thanks!

At least one of the Report Managers listed at: can automate/schedule the process of daily exporting a Crystal report to a new (or replace an existing) excel Tab in a specified Excel workbook.

This should answer your immediate objective, but long-term, the idea that your users are better off creating their own reports in Excel might be a mistake.

I've moved to using 2 excel files-- one with all my charts, etc. referencing the data in another, which I'm using Crystal Delivery to overwrite once a day, so my data is always renewed.

This seems to be the way to go, but for some reason, I get an "Unable to read File" error in Excel when I open the excel file with all the charts...it still updates my numbers...so I'm confused. This also does not occur if I open and re-save the export excel file first...

...ideas? Thanks again!
