I am merging several tables from 2 different Encore/Impact 4.0 databases using MS Access as the go between. Everything works fine when trying to append a record from 1 database to the other unless the source record has a date field value of NULL. I get the error...

'You tried to assign the Null value to a variable that is not a Variant data type.'

To get around this I entered a dummy date (today) into all date fields that were NULL. Now I need to go back and update the date fields to blank, nothing, nada. Anybody know how to do this?

Make an update query with just the date field in question. In the update to enter Null
In the criteria enter #10/05/2003#

Trendsetter, thank you for your response. I did as you suggested but it was a no-go. Same error message.

The field properties of these date fields indicate that they are a required field, however, many existing records in the destination table have date fields that are blank.

These date fields are system generated, like LAST_PAYMENT_DATE, etc.

I was able to update these date fields with Null by using VB and directly accessing the Encore tables through Transoft ODBC.
