i went to httpd.conf and added the line
Listen 68.6.190.115:80
but when i try to start apache i get:
apache could not determine the servers fully qualified
domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for servername.
I also tried using webmin, i went to the config page,
clicked on ports and address,
but when i enter address 68.6.190.115 port 80 i get
Error:failed to change address: the address 68.6.190.115
is not assigned to the system.
What am i doing wrong ???
==========================
i am using debian (linux). i also have a separate problem,
my rt 314 router wants a username + password, but i think
ill fix that problem by running the router config cd
again from a windows machine.

Your problem seems to be that you are assigning Apache an IP that isn't the systems IP. Find out your real IP and set that instead. //Daniel

i know for a fact that the ip of the router.
it appears on all my sent mail, for example.
and when i use a browser and enter
i get the sign-in box for
my router netgear rt314.

So you are trying to setup Apache on your router? Now you got me confused. //Daniel

no, im have apache setup on this computer.
i can see it starts in the startup messages.
i can see it in $ps ax
this computer (running debian woody,
libranet 2.0 distro) shares internet access
with 2 or 3 windoze machines through a netgear
rt 314 gateway/router. my cable isp is cox.net
but the router holds its url forever
as long as its on.
>>>>>i entered Listen 68.6.190.115:80 in
httpd.conf. but webmin wont let me enter
that address on its "ports and addresses" page
and if i go
# cd /etc/init.d
#apache start i get the message
"apache could not determine the fully qualified
domain name, using 127.0.0.1for ServerName."

Your ISP may be blocking port 80. If it is, no matter what you do to httpd.cong won't work. If you have a win box, you can download a port scanner that will tell you if this port is open or blocked by your ISP. You can get it from but you must bypass your router to use it.

Well, your computers IP would be different from the routers IP. If you want your computer to handle all HTTP requests coming to the router, you would have to setup the router to forward all port 80 connects to your computer. //Daniel

figured it out. in httpd.conf:
ServerName 68.6.190.115
thanx all for your help!!!
truly, capybara )
