Hello:

My "Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG - 02/20/1998" has the following BOOT SEQUENCE options . . .

A, C, SCSI (my present choice)
C, A, SCSI
C, CDROM, A
CDROM, C, A
D, A, SCSI
E, A, SCSI
F, A, SCSI
SCSI, A, C
SCSI, C, A
C only
LS/ZIP, C,

I have a "Yamaha CRW3200EZ CD-RW Drive" at E: and a "Hitachi CDR-8330 CDROM Drive" at F:

QUESTION:
Is there any way to (customize/create) a NEW Boot Sequence in this Award BIOS?

I would love to have "one" of the following sequences . . .

A, CDROM, C
CDROM, A, C

Thank you for any info.

Nimble Explorer XP (1998 custom-built) Computer
Intel Pentium II, MMX, 300MHz
Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
ENPC EP-KL21 v1.3 Motherboard (02/20/98-i440LX-SMC67X-2A69JECBC-00
Windows 95 OSR2.5 4.00.1212 b ( 4.03.1214 )
Intel 440LX/EX Chipset

The maker of the board or the BIOS would have to alter it and provide a flash program and the file to make the change. I'd like to see a similar change but am not holding my breath.

Having said that, I just checked the book for a new FIC FA15T motherboard and the choices have changed. It has separate entries for 'First Boot Device', 'Second Boot Device', 'Third Boot Device', and last is 'Boot Other Device'. So there is a lot more choice in the newer Award BIOSes.

Hello BERTON:

1) Is this "FIC FA15T MOTHERBOARD" (another name) for my motherboard, or are you talking about one of the NEWEST motherboards on the market?

2) Are you also saying that even if I FLASH my present AWARD BIOS - it still will NOT contain the sequence I desire?

3) Of the choices I DO HAVE on in my AWARD BIOS, i.e.,

A, C, SCSI (present choice)
C, CDROM, A
CDROM, C, A

which choice do you advise me to go with?

I have the ability to create a "BOOTABLE CD" using AHEAD NERO-BURNING ROM software.

4) If not too-much trouble . . . could you tell me exactly WHAT files this "BOOTABLE CD" should contain for my Windows 95 OSR2.5 (4.00.1212 b) (4.03.1214 b) computer?

Thank you for any info.

RICHARD (NYC)

1. The board I received last week is not too old, may still be in production.

2. Flashing the BIOS is usually for needed hardware support, not new features. Can't say for your particular brand/version.

3. For normal use, I'd go with C, CDROM, A but you can't leave a CD in the drive or it'll try to boot to it first. Second choice would be A, C, SCSI. I use the second choice on most of my computers because I do more with boot disks than a lot of people ever will.

4. I use NTI CD Maker and can create a boot CD. Haven't loaded Nero yet so not familiar with its process. This link may give you some help:

On all the recent computers I've ever seen, the boot sequence A, CDROM, IDE0 (or somthing along those lines) is present. Sorry to hear that the manufactuer did not supply that setting.

Some BIOS allow the user to select 1st Boot Divice, 2nd Boot Divice, 3rd Boot Divice. I've allways liked the way that worked... Hmm... Still can't beat Mac...

OK Berton:

Just confirming that I read your reply.

Thanks for the info and help.

Ending this issue.

Gratefully,

RICHARD :>)

You're welcome. The computer hardware does change. Your question and working with the new board is getting me to thinking about a new setup for myself.
