I have red blocks and lines going over my screen!
Its really irritating, ive swaped hard drives, reformatted them, reinstalled windows and cannot fix the problem.

At first i thought it was hardward but reinstalling the windows has allowed my pc to boot up now.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I have picture of my screen if anyone wants to take a look?
I dont know how to upload it.

Kind regards

Nash

I would guess your video adapter has failed, or there is an issue with its drivers.

Download from the video adapter manufacturer its newest WHQL certified driver set and install.

How do i know which one to download?

How do i know my video adapter manufactuer?

You download the most recent driver. If it is WHQL certified it will say so.

Your adapter information is in Device Manager.

Screenshots.

What happened first, a boot problem or a video display problem? Is there any more you can tell us about the recent history of this machine?

Video Card 101

Enable VGA Mode: This option starts Windows in 640 x 480 mode, using the current video driver (not Vga.sys). This mode is useful if the display is configured for a setting that the monitor cannot display.

Just try plain old Safe Mode to see if that video driver works.

HI there,

Im not sure.
I started my pc, it worked fine, then i left it on and went away
When i came back it had crashed

I tried to start the PC but it would only start in safe mode.

I ran chkdsk and other things but did not help so i had to format my harddrive
After i did that it started but with the red blocks all over the screen
Im struggling to see what i am typing so forgive me if i cant spell correctly!

From Safe Mode (or Enable VGA Mode if that works) have a go at installing the correct driver for your Video Card. If that doesn't work, do you have another Monitor you can test with, although from this distance it seems your Video Card may need replacing.

While in Safe Mode you could have a look at the Event Viewer for any strange errors, but unfortunately being in Safe Mode, that itself will generate automatic errors in the Event Viewer because of the fact that drivers and services don't load in Safe Mode, still you might see something in there that is relevant.

I logged into my pc in normal mode and downloaded the updated driver.
I restarted my pc but now it wont boot up!

I'll have to format my hard drive again and reinstall windows....

Replace your video adapter first.
