any way to hide the mouse pointer until somebody mves the mouse?

In a specific application? Or just on the desktop? Could you be a little more specific?

Control Panel > Mouse > Pointer Options

Put a check in "Hide pointer while typing"

That's about all I can think of. And I don't think that covers what you're trying to do.
