any reason to select "start remote agent utility every time you logon"

researching couple of issues with backing up remotely, and I see the option to "start remote agent utility every time you log on"

is it standard practice for that to be checked?

I never select this option. You could run it manually if needed (e.g. to advert to another Media server).
