Answer DN's...what am I missing?

I set up a new CICS (7.0) today. Have five lines set to "appear & ring" on 221. I also have the same lines appearing/ringing on the VM DN (235?). The CallPilot answers (0 rings) and does its' thing without issue.

221 is un-manned. On the occasion a caller presses "0" during the announcement, 221 will ring. The person sitting nearby (224) wants to answer 221 if this situation arises (before the caller goes to GenDelivery).

I programmed an "Answer DN" on 224 for 221. When 221 is ringing (after pressing "0" during the greeting) and you press "Ans 221" on the other set, the display reads "Calling 221". It will not answer 221. (I've tried both "appear only" and "appear & ring"). I've checked the programming (Feat * 0) and the button reads "Ans. 221".

To temporarily remedy this, I placed a "group pick-up" button on 224 and instructed the client to use that button.

I've set up hundreds of phones with the Answer DN feature and never had this issue.

Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance,

Is sounds like you got an Intercom 221 on 224 instead of an Answer DN. An easier way would be to just make 224 the "zero out" extension in the voicemail system, or make the "zero out extension a huntgroup and put both 221 and 224 in the huntgroup. That works very well when you want several people to be able to pick up on an operator call.

It's definitely an "Answer DN". That's what the buttom programming says. However, when you press it, it says "Calling 221" (and 221 rings).

224 isn't the reception phone and that user doesn't want to be bothered by all the "zero's". 221 will eventually be occupied, but until then, they want the option of answering it or not answering it.

Why won't an "Answer DN" work? Must I do the Hunt Group suggestion?

you shouldn't have to do the huntgroup.
How do you have the ANSWER KEY programming set? Is it Basic, Enhanced, or Extended? (under feature settings)
Also, you said you had the lines appearing and ringing on the VM DN 235. That is not the best way. You should actually go into VM programming under ANSWER LINES, and turn them on to answer with 0 rings that way. Well, that is my opinion only. Some may argue.

It sounds like you have done this O.K. But Please specify how you programmed the answer DN. ALso please specify what does the button show in the display when you do a button inquiry (F*0)for this button you have programmed. Also you can simply have them use directed call pick up. Or maybe put them in the same pick up group also. Lots of options. I think. This is just my opinion. Thanks

Answers to the above two posts:

I believe the Answer Key is "Basic", or whatever the default setting is. What should it be set at? I've never changed that from the default setting in 5 years of programming Nortel's.

Without lines appearing/ringing on the VoiceMail DN, CallerID info is not passed along to the sets. And yes, they are set to answer at "0" rings.

I programmed the answer DN just like I always have... Terminals & Sets, etc., AnsDN, Show, 221, Appear only (also tried Appear & Ring). Upon inquiring with Feat-*-0, the button (on 224) reads "Ans. 221". When you press the button, it calls 221 and the display reads "Calling 221".

All sets are assigned to allow pick-up and are in pick-up group "1".

Docean, WOW, this one was bugging me, so I verified it with a new CICS 7.0. You are absolutely right. If you press the Answer DN button, it will call the set (calling 221) instead of saying "no call answered" like earlier software.
Mine does answer the other set if there is an actual call ringing at the other set though. I verified both "appear only" and "appear & ring" settings. I kept it in BASIC Answer Key mode. I have not found any documentation that talks about this software change yet.

The BASIC setting will not ring for prime set call captures, call forwarded calls, other ans key calls, priority calls, voice calls, ringing service and callbacks.

ENHANCED is same as basic, exept will ring for overflow calls and prime calls.

EXTENDED will ring for all calls except for priority calls and voice calls.

I normally use EXTENDED if I am answering the prime set.

Strange new bug we seem to have here. I noticed the the Ans DN button does not give any display indication of the set status like you would normally get if you assigned the intercom number to the button.??????????
