ok I've been reading alot of these threads about slow bootups. well I was surprised that I havn't found anyone talking about a slow boot because of the way XP registers you onto a LAN. I connect to the net with DSL. As I understand it windows networking uses smb(or tlcl whatever) and when you boot up and have a cable plugged into your nic. it takes windows XP forever (1-2 minutes) to register your computer on the network. Is there a way to build a permenite list of workstations on your network so that windows doesn't have to do it? or am I not understanding how windows deals with workgroup networks.
