I have a legal copy of XP the one that came on my new Dell 8200 computer, Duly registered.
I also have the sp1 disk directly from Microsoft.
I have tried to upgrade twice the first time by downloading the upgrade from the internet. When that crashed my computer to the point that I couldn't get any access to the hard drive at all I had to reinstall my operating system from the factory CD.
I then ordered the CD from Microsoft and POW my system crashed again though this time I could get in, in safe mode.
However I could not get it to reboot in normal mode even with my sound and video drivers disabled. After several hours of messing around I finally used the restore utility to go back to my old set up. I then got all these "Entry Point Not Found" errors. Even the System utility in Control Panel would not open.
I then ran reinstall over my old setup, but all the problems were still there.
Finally I reinstalled everything from scratch, including all my software.
That's why I would like to install the new version from scratch instead of trying to upgrade again.
