I have now bought a new card which will fit into a PCI slot. I was told to first disble the original 1M card via the BIOS, but unfortunately the only options I have are to use the 1k OR 1M options. There is NO option to disable the video card. Is there any way to do this, as I cannot stand having this 1M card. Surely HP would not prevent u from updating stuff like a video card. This has really baffled/annoyed me, as the computer I have has always given me hassle ie constantly getting gpf's (or similar), AOL always crashing. Can this be done via CP and System???

Thanx 2 ne1 who responds! Nick (Everton Rool OK!)

With some computers In Bios setup you can switch from the on board graphics to a primary PCI Video Adapter. Check in your setup and see if you have something like Default Primary Adapter setting and change it from AGP to PCI. This worked for my Gateway computer.

Good luck

cheers spool,

I have no AGP slot on my pc cause it is quite old now.

All I have is video slot (or something), with 2 opttions, instead of 3. The third option (disable card) does not exist.

If I insert the new card b4 disabling the old video, I get a blank screen.

It seems as though i can only use the bult in video card. Is there any way i can disable it in control panel/system?

Cheers! Nick (Everton Rool OK!)

With no add-on card, try starting in Safe Mode (press F8 at boot), go into Device Manager and set your onboard video to disabled. Then shutdown and install the new card to see if it works.

try this>my computer>right click properties>device manager>
display adapter click on your onboard display adapter>disable it or uncheck exists in all profiles> if you get the red X it is disabled. You may still need to get into bios and jumpers on mobo it all depends on your pc manufacter. some systems will automatically disable onboard video. You need to contact HP email tech support. Good Luck LOL PEARL
