Is there some method I could use to create an additional logical interface similar in function to a loopback interface? I have already used my loopback interface and have some higher level equipment routing to it. I have lower level equipment that I need to point to an interface that I can make IP unreachable at will (shutdown). This is so that I can cause an x25 xot route statement to failover to the next ip route configured within the statement. I have several of these all over the country, and it isn't really feasable to have a loopback plug physically installed on an unused serial interface to bring one of those up (4AS cards). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think simply creating another loopback interface would solve the problem. I run as many as 3 loopback interfaces (loopback0, loopback1, loopback2) on some of my routers. Todd Hethmon

Embarrassingly enough, I was under the impression that it was not possible. I’m not really sure why. Heard it somewhere I guess. Anyway, thanks Todd, and sorry for the ridiculous post.
