I am trying to get an analog fax working over IP with a definity system with the H.323 protocol. I've read about some timeout issues with the Cisco ata's ...any comments and/or recommendations would be appreciated.
thanks

What is the version of the pbx? If you punch it down to on a analog port and have a medpro you should be fine...V11 or higher if I recall.

In the future everything will work...

Sorry if I'm not providing enough information but I'm still new at this phone business but I will try and explain the situation I have. We have an S8700 G3xV12 and we have a large ferry system. We connect to the ferries via wireless radios that are then connected to a wired lan on the ferries
All we have is an ip connection. We previously had a form of cellular communication that could do fax but that service is slowly being decommisioned and it's replacement is costly in terms of setup on the boats. We were wondering if something like a Cisco ATA could just be plugged into the ip network on the ferry and then routed over the wireless connection an then into the s8700 and from there wherever it needs to go. Please let me know if you need any other information and I will try and provide it.
Thank You

grugind,

i'm not sure about ata186, but our cisco guy says it supports t.38 standard for fax-over-ip. avaya supports it from cm2.1.1 version, so theoretically you can use ata186 as a remote ip-to-analog gateway. i'm not sure whether avaya's favourite multitech ip-to-analog gateway supports t.38, but minding its cost it probably would be cheaper and easier use ata186. by the way, it's a very interesting question and i think i should try to resolve it in my lab. if the matter is not pressing too hard, you can wait for the results.

Dwalin,
I have some time until I need to get this done. I would say a week or two until I should probably order something so that it looks like I'm making progress :) ..I would be very interested in any results you obtain. thanks!

Dufus2506,
