Analog Line Problem 1

Hello All,

I have a head scratcher here.

System is an IP500V2 R9.1 w/ 1 Combo Card running in basic mode (I know). 5 9508 sets and 4 analog lines.

Comcast is the carrier.

Just installed about a month ago. All new equipment. Control Unit is grounded.

Problem popped up a week and half ago.

While on a call, the audio cuts in and out. It is intermittent and random. Best way I can describe it is it sounds like a hookswitch/flash.

Also, if I am off-hook on one line and I disconnect another line from the IPO, the line I'm on get heavy static/noise. The static/noise gets progressively worse as I remove lines from the system, leaving only the line I'm on connected. It doesn't matter which line I use or which lines I disconnect. (Hope that makes sense).

Lines are crystal clear when using a buttset connected to the Comcast unit.

I've replaced the combo card and the control unit. This has not resolved the issue. So, the last piece is the lines from Comcast.

I do have a vendor meet scheduled.

Any ideas so that I can point the cable guy in the right direction. It's going to be tough to convince them since the lines are clear on their own.

Thanks for any insight.

I have had someone resolve an issue like this with a Sandman DATA NOISE FILTER

A filter is not the issue. How is the chassis grounded? What gauge wire? I suspect the IAD though. Sound like bad diodes or caps.

Well, Comcast replaced the voice modem with a brand new one yesterday with no improvement. Every piece of hardware has been replaced. Not sure where to go with this.

Is it a V1 Combo Card? Those did have a bad batch that had cross-talk on them. If they are V1, I would upgrade them to V2.

I would test the SLT ports on the combo. See if they have the same issue. If you have a tone.probe use the probe to see how much noise is between the IAD and the IPO. I had this once when the building was at an airport near the tower. I am still curious about the grounding. It should be a 10 AWG minimum to a ground lug to into building ground or saddle clamp to EMT to be effective.

That reminds me about a PABX that was in a building in line of sight to the airport.
Every time the radar dish would spin around the PABX would reboot.
Every time they put a new PABX in it would do the same thing.

Airport was about 10 clicks away and the building is a 31 storey building.

Want to smell my wallet?

Mkoker, you sir get a star.

The filters from The Sandman worked. Thank you for the suggestion.

are the lines coming from the central office (regular copper) or from fiber optics ? It could be a firmware issue on their equipment
