An error 1068 MSSQL- cannot start service

I've got a stand alone version of SQL running on my laptop for development and all of a sudden it won't start. When I try to start the SQL Agent I get a 1069 error that the dependency service or group failed to start. If I try to start SQL server from SQL server manager it doesn't do anything. In services it throws the following error: could not start the MSSQLServer service on local computer. The service did not return an error. This could be an internal windows error or an internal service error.

I found a tech note in the knowledge base that said to make sure both services are setup to run by the local system account and they are.

Any idea's???
