More than likely, you are using an AMI controller of some sort. AMI is repackaged through systems like Dell under the product name of PERC. the daemon you are referring to is a monitoring program to review cache hits and general performance.
On my system (one of them) the amird is the RAID card controler. We replaced the adacrd with the amird. I can't say if this is a universal naming convention. So, amirdmon would be monitoring the RAID array. But, we are using a 6 disk array at RAID 5. I am no expert on this, but maybe this will help.
