Recently bought a advent laptop 7095 , untill 1 week ago everything was fine.Hadnt booted it for about 1 week an suddenly no sound...theres nothing showing in device man...but strangly theres no system beep when the bios loads pre windows..there are no options in the bios to turn on or off the onboard sound, unless there are hidden screens that need to be accessed to turn the onboard sound on...im pulling my hair out here...please help before it gets a wheely bin wrapped around it heh.

Hey there,

Probably a stupid question, but if you plug in a headset or headphone, can you hear anything then during boot or when playing a song?
Or is your sound just muted? Most of the time you should press your 'Fn'key and someother key.

Hoped I helped, otherwise we'll sort it out together, maybe even with the help of others.

This link does not refer to your machine but it will offer you a "road map" to follow as a general guide to troubleshooting a sound problem.

It is concerning that you have no sound from bootup. Does that use the same speaker in your laptop as do all your other sounds?

As it was OK a week ago, have you tried using System Restore?

Or driver rollback.

I suspect you allowed Windows Update to "fix" the drivers for your sound device.

Hi thanks for the reply,
as requards drivers, there is no sound device showing in device manager...i am begining to think that the onboard sound device is fryed..my thoughts go along the line of i have vista rc2 installed on a second partition an there is no sound device installed there too, this is why i was wondering that somehow...the onboard sound had been turned off in the bios , but theres no setting.

As you say, the only common thing between both operating systems is the Bios. Two things you can try before looking at more expensive options are to reset the Bios back to Safe Defaults or checking to see if any Bios update is available.
