Hello everyone. I'm back with a question. Sometime in the near future I am planning on building my own PC. I trust you guys a lot so I figured I would come here first and ask for your opinions.

What would you fellow Techie's suggest/prefer AMD or Intel motherboard.

Any input is welcome. This is going to be my first PC I am attempting to build. So any step into the right direction would be great!

I have a bunch of sites with Cases/Boards/Cards/Monitors and all.

Anyway the point of this topic, is not more of a "What's Better" but more of a way for me to learn more about AMD and Intel.

Oh and I'm sure this topic has been discussed on many occassions, so if it had...you could just point me towards a link of information if youd don't feel like repeating yourselves.

Thanks in advance guys.

I have the AMD 64 bit 3200+ processor, and it has been a huge boost from my previous system with a 1.33 ghz Athlon. There is a new 3400+ version out, get that along with a good motherboard and you will be future-proof for a while.

paparazi, my Pioneer drive is a 106S & was manufactured in April 2001 (actually states that on the label). Maybe they've gotten better mechanics since, I don't know, but in my opinion there's just no advantage to a slot drive other than "style", which given the problems I've experienced the drive just isn't worth the money. Plus the drive's fan is quite loud which is very bothersome when trying to watch a dvd movie. And maybe you haven't seen anyone returnning them because they work great initially, but if they break down 2 years from purchase, it's out of warranty and probably just trown away?
