Always dial my default connection keeps changing

I have Win 98SE and have been using IE 6.0 since it was first released. It seems that since going to MS' Updates and downloading that latest updates, IE no longer remembers to dial my default connection. It continually changes back to "Never dial a connection." The only way I can connect is to right click on the IE icon on the desktop, select properties, connections tab, then recheck the "always dial...." It will then work for that one instance, but the next time I want to connect, I have to go through the same procedure. What's a guy to do?
