My company has recently install Netware 6 as the initial signon screen to our networks

Every time I want to use domain resources (Particularly Network drives), a login window is presented and I have to put in my username and password before access is granted.

My username and password are the same on Netware and NT Domain and I'm a member of the 'Domain Administrators' group.

This is becoming a real pain, since certain other utilities appear affected too.

Does anyone know how to get round this?

Thanks
BJJJB

if they are in sync - you shouldnt be asked for this
i know i always have the nds on all ms flavour but this just syncs them at the end of the day
i'm assuming that everything is ip
is the net use from the script or is it some kind of reconnect

i've found as well (tids are on this) - as nt is obviosly slower to auth than nds - use nal objects that map to the drive for you so that it's had time to auth

is you pwd in uppercase?

Thanks Terry,

You're right, we're pure IP and my (and other peoples) passwords are exactly the same on Local PC (W2000), within NDS and on the MS-Domain.

I've check the windows tab (on the NT-Login) and it states the domain I expect to use but someone (who knows who) thought it wise to have MS-Domain and MS-Workgroup having the same name so I can't be sure which I connect to.

I'm an MS-Domain Administrator and in Netware I was and Admin upto version 5. But I've never come across this before.

It's as though the MS-User credentials are not passed to the Domain device. I usually just do Start...Run then type "\\TheServer\C$" but 'Net Use' and the other routes all bring up the MS-Login box.

My password is all lower case and I know it works on both systems individually.

I have another computer, again W2000, but this does not have Netware on. Using the same login I can connect to ant Domain Device (assuming Domain Administrators have priviledges on the device)

ok real quicky and on a pc that you confortable to mess around
can you cahnge the login order
in registry - cant check where just now but you'll recognise it
change nwgina to msgina
this will force your domain box up first and then the novell one
i'm curious to see if it lets you login
the same name is a bit strange but ?
is your pc a member of the domain - not that it needs to be as mines never are but i'm not exactly pro bill

Ah Ha,

Changing the GINA (Local Machine....WinLogon) to MSGINA.DLL has indeed allowed access to both the Domain resources and the Netware resources. Summed up this works.

Now how on earth do I ge the NWGINA to respect that I wish to sign onto the domain and not the local machine directly?
(sort of rhetorical) but if anyone knows the answer?
I think it is changing the Default Domain Name - and I'm trying it now.

Tried going back to NWGINA with the Domain name registered in the Registry 'Default Domain Name' Key - didn't work and had to re-enter credentials for each Mapped Drive I opened.

Tried Setting the Windows Tab on NW Logon Gina to 'DomainName\UserName' - didn't work either

Switched Back to MSGINA as this serves my purpose but I can't understand why the information is not passed through to the Domain.

is it a standard nt4 domain?
what client (novell) are ypu running?
what os are you using?

i will try to see if i can emulate it coz to be truthful cant think of anything

swapping the gina's around in above should do the exact same tasks except change the order

or - are you using a cisco switch? - if so on your port can you turn portfast enable on please

if you can do this - turn pc on - leave for a least 2 mins then login with novell client as default gina

i know it sounds stupid - but weird probs are normally stupid fixes

Domain NT4 = Yes. Mixture of NT4/2000 Servers. PDC on my LAN
Netware = Version 6. Server located on my LAN
Novell Client = 4.83 SP2
Client OS = MicroSoft Windows 2000 5.00.2195 SP3

Getting ports changed on the Switch, might take a while due to protocols but I'll try.

Thanks for the help Terry.
