depends on what your wanting... I heard of alienware machines about.... 2-3 years ago, so I am pretty sure that they are safe...
What I heard was nothing but good, but now that I've looked more into systems (and am currently building my third system.) I prefer to build my own. And don't go for the box anyways... The gateway boxes look pretty cool, but the comps are pretty bad...
I suggest finding another retailer online, like econopc.com or newegg.com and telling them which components you want, and have them build it for you. That MIGHT be cheaper than buying an alien comp, although I'm not sure..
And being able to tell your dealer what you want is really nice because you can customize it, say what you want, and know what your getting...
ex:
a cool looking black case (or give them a model number)
Gainward geforce2 Pro TI/450 <---- SWEET price for what it is, that card ROCKS!
512 megs 2100 ddr memory
pretty much whatever the hell you want...
Sure, by an alienware comp, do what you want. But I would rather have a custom built system...
anyways, hope it all works out! Computers have given me years of enjoyment as well as make things INCREDIBLY easier for me... Buying a computer in general, is a VERY wise choice... =)
Btw... make sure you get atleast a 1-2 year warrantee!!!
Hope this helps...
