We are running SBS 2000 and Windows 2000 server, with windows xp pro and windows 2000 pro workstations.
Is there a way to have events that are reported in any workstation communicated to me, the network admin?
Of course, I would want to be able to configure which events came to my attention (such as errors only or errors and warnings only, etc).
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Win2k and XP have (under "computer management") a section called "performance logs and alerts". I believe you can set this up to email various alerts to a pre defined email address. The only thing is that you'd have to set this up on every work station unless it can be scripted somehow.

Thanks for the suggestion, Sioxley. I think this function only provides alerts for the objects and counters available in the list. I don't see anything in it that relates to errors, warnings or information items appearing in the event viewer.

Gbl,

Would you consider using a third party tool to accomplish this?

Binkie,
Yes third party tools are ok.

gbl,

Might I suggest SysTrack from Lakeside Software, ( SysTrack has a facility which monitors Event Logs, and includes a notification mechinism to notify you via page, email, or SNMP of occuring events. It is also flexible as you can be notified about certain events, (security, application, errors/warnings) etc. that you choose.

Good Luck!
