We have 9 BrightStor ArcServe servers and for some reason 7 of them decided to stop sending the email alerts after the backup job. The Alert Activity Log gives the following errors:

Failed to Send Email (80040700)
Failed to Send SMTP (80000002)

The test message works fine. If I create a new job with new alerts, it works fine. I have deleted the job and re-added it and that didn't help.

I have been unable to find any information on those specific errors.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks!
Lynne

See my reply to the same question under
Computer Associates: ARCserve back-up

By the way is it just me that gets bugged by seeing the same question opened more than once?

80000002 = no smtp server name

Set the alias name to be unique

2.try the command:
"TELNET smtpserver 25" this should work
having VirusScan installed, check if disabled the following item in
Virus Scan console:
- Access protection, prevent mass-mailers worms from sending mail, port 25 >>> ( if MCAFEE is installed )
3.few more check
- check the Server name in the SMTP settings
- check the SMTP server service (started)
- check the Firewall settings (if configured)

cheers
Sandy

Hi,

Have you changed the mailbox that is used to send alerts.
80040700 is usually pointing to an ambiguous mailbox..

On the BAB server, open a command line.

type
Nslookup
set
Now look for Mail Exchanger = xxxxxx.xxx

set this value on the SMTP server.

So it Shall be Written!
So it Shall be Done!!
