I have been studying for my AIX system Administration test and was wondering if any one could give me some other resources to use in preparing. I have the Boson test and the Red Books. Is there any other websites or books I should read before I take the test. I have also been working with AIX for a few years but mostly doing jr. level administration.

Thank You

Hi

As you think boson software and redbooks will not help much.
Also you need exposure and goo experience in administration and trouble shooting.Years of working will not count.
The work you involve in matters alot! You should have overview of AIX concepts,Frankly speaking ...I didn't relay either on boson software or red books..I have practical experince and added theoretical experince.I got more knowlege my reading different documentation resources...
I never restrict myself to particular redbook.IF THAT is the
situation ...every one will read red book and get certified.
Also do not depend on third party software for simulation tests...solaris has lot of simulation tests/sample questions..But they won't help much...
Knowledge matters!

I have certificates of IBM in aix,Tivoli, and sun solaris
But my strategy of preparation is different.
I am research oriented guy...I would like to drill down
the subject...That is the secret of my success!

I don't relay on any practice tests...
practical exp plus theoritical exp contributes to success.

I hope this post will give you outlook on any certification.

Just study...!hands on!!!

i do not mean to sound immodest when i say i am good at taking tests. there are several tricks that anyone can use to increase their scores on tests, particularly multiple-choice tests. the IBM tests are not quite so simpleminded in design as your driver's license test, however, so some study is required.

firstly, obtain the summary of items which might be asked about on the test. go through that list and make sure you understand each item. if that is not possible, don't worry too much, you only need to get 2/3 of the questions right. also note the officially-correct answer, it might differ from the actual or practical answer. you must give the answers IBM is looking for.

secondly, decide on a letter to choose when you do not have any idea as to what the answer is. C is a good choice since statistically the middle value is more often the correct answer, and you increase your chances of guessing correctly if you always choose that same letter. that statement would not be true in a truly random case, it relies on a human design error and the IBM tests probably compensate for the "C Rule".

lastly, use what you know to eliminate as many answers as possible. it is better to have to guess from two answers rather than four or five.

"C is a good choice since statistically the middle value is more often the correct answer..."

Not on a properly constructed test. I have a masters in education and have had graduate classes in test construction.

My best advice is to take the Redbooks and go through them practically on an AIX system if you have access to one.

Pay particular attention to the command line commands and specific switches, a lot of that came up in my exam.

The exam isn't particularly difficult, but you need to keep a clear head and read the questions properly.
