In AIX, oslevel -rq returns:
Known Recommended Maintenance Levels
------------------------------------
4330-11
4330-10
4330-09
4330-08
4330-07
4330-06
4330-05
4330-04
4330-03
4330-02
4330-01
4320-02

and `instfix -ciqk 4330-11_AIX_ML | grep ':-:' will return all the filesets to bring be up to ML11.

What are the evquivalent Solaris commands. showrev doesn't return like oslevel and instfix.

Thanks.

if you need Info about different UNIXes I recommend

in Solaris there is nothing like a "Maintenance Level", there is just a Patchlevel for every single Patch (showrev -p); you can compare this to the current recommended patch by using patchdiag utility (downlod from sunsolve.sun.com); there is a patchdig.xref file with updates every few days.

What do you need this info for?

But if there is a patch level for every patch, they have to be dependent on the installed kernel. That is what the AIX instfix command is for - to check consistency of all filesets to make sure they are at the required level.

If there was a pci driver that was patched for a new kernel and it never go upgraded in an install for whatever reason, how would you find out the exact fileset that needed to be upgraded, and to which level?

In AIX there are also APARs and PTFs which contain specific fixes to problems and contain particular filestes. PTFs contain multiple APARs. For example, in this month's latest fixes for AIX 4.3, PTF U495648 (X11.Dt.rte) can contain multiple APARs like IY05093 and may contain many others.

instfix and oslevel are command that ensure consistency of all filesets based on OS version and maintenance level.

How does Solaris handle all of this then?

Thanks.

As daFranze said, showrev and patchdiag.

Not all operating systems are as easy to maintain as AIX.

@ screwloose

there is something that may help you

>> if there is a patch level for every patch, they have to be dependent on the installed kernel

yes, there is a Patche for every OS; some patches may be attached on different OSes when it patches an application...

>> If there was a pci driver that was patched for a new kernel and it never go upgraded in an install for whatever reason, how would you find out the exact fileset that needed to be upgraded, and to which level?

sunsolve.sun.com -> Patches; there are single Patches (they may have dependancies) or Patch Cluster per OS
