We have a NT 4.0 SP6 with MSSQL 7.0 on a dual CPU Compaq Server.

The brainiac that set up the server years ago put the MSSQL engine & Data Directories on the (Raid5) D: drive. We had a disk fail in the array. After replaciing it the drive rebuild seemed to go okay. BUT Now SQL 7.0 will not start.

When I start the SQL Services I receive a Error 2140. Q180738 suggests the cause:
1. Tempdb database set to read-only. (NOT TRUE)
2. Master.dat file is not in correct directory or WIn NT Account not have permissions to the directory. (FALSE).

Meanwhile, in the Application Log I receive Errors 5180 and 5172 pointing to a disk controller not in this machine.

We have restored BackupExec backups to D: but SQL still won't start.

Should I reload SQL 7.0 and hope it all works? Won't I loose my database connections?
