after ADS system is very slow

after installing active directory on my windows 2000 server its booting up very slowly & its not at all shutting down , what might be the problem & what is solution to that , plz help me in this issue

is that a fresh installation ? which part is slowing down, just at the logon, or in the entire session ?
we might need some more info

How is your DNS configured? Is Exchange installed on this server?

Need much more info.

sir i have installed dns on this ads server only , i have installed sp4 also its an ibm server x series 205
with 2 ghz processor & 512 mb ram

my installation is a fresh one , logon process is slow & its not at all shutting down
