Does anyone know by chance how to get rid of, or re-enable the right click option on the desktop or on icons etc.. The other day I had some spyware and adware run a mess on a unprotected PC. It changed the Desktop background to an advertisement for Spyware removal software and wouldnt let me right click anywhere to remove it.

To also add to this, when I got into the display settings it locked the variables in the Display Properties tab...

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

in win98se, fire up regedit and navigate to these keys:
Code:
[i]User Key:[/i]
   [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
[i]System Key:[/i]
   [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
[i]Value Name:[/i]
   [b][COLOR=blue]NoViewContextMenu[/color][/b]
[i]Data Type:[/i]
   REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
[i]Value Data:[/i]
   (0 = disabled, 1 = enabled)

don't forget to backup your registry before doing anything so that whenever anything goes wrong, you'll have something to return to.

let me know if this helped. peace! [peace]

If it was lop, getting rid of all the lop files should also cause the problem icons to go away.

Are your registry and data backed up?
