Hi Folks,

This is my situation,

I currently have a site with two DC's one with exchange 2000 standard and isa server 2000 also installed hence as you can imagine this box is under a lot of pressure. My plan is to install a second server into the exchange organization so basically install exchange onto DC2 which is simply a file and print, then transfer the relevant roles to the new server and eventually uninstall exchange from DC1.

While there is a lot of posts referring to moving exchange to new hardware and then keeping the computer name this is not quiet what I want to do as I need to preserve both servers as is in this situation, while I realize it's not quiet ideal installing exchange onto a domain controller I have no option in this instance and I was not involved from the start here..

So basically I need best practices or indeed any other advise would be greatly appreciated as this is the first time I have done this,

Thanks All,,

All you need to do is, install Exchange on the second server, call it something different, then you create a AD Link between the two, to share resources and jobs, make sure they link up and away you go.

MS do some good paper on exchange, also Exchange 2003 has a wizard on it that will walk you through the whole process.

Good luck.

Thanks guys,

I have installed a second exchange server onto the second domain controller DC2, i now can see both exchange servers in the organisation under server manager,, great!!, i have just setup replicas for all public folders and have left to replicate for a day or so before i transfer (rehome) remaining roles and move mail boxes etc.

Is there a way to compare to make sure all folders are fully replicated as i have approx 40 public folders with 600 mb of data?

So far so good,

thanks for your help.
