Hi - The senario is we have an SBS2000 domain with 2 addtional DC's on 2 sites. The SBS server needs to be rebuilt due to hardware problems. The SBS server is backed up daily - inc AD.

Has anyone restored an SBS 2000 server in a simular senario?

The complication being the additonal DC's - restoring in a single DC model SBS enviorment is reasonably straight forward.

If you restore from tape the AD from the other locations should update the SBS box since the tiem stamps on those servers will be newer.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Suggestion: Upgrade to SBS 2003 so you can create an Automated System Recovery disk.

Cheers Mark - to be honest we can down the other DC's as the work will be carried out out of hours, so the issue of updates to AD probably wont be an issue.

Upgrading to SBS 2003 would not be practical until the server has been rebuilt - as it has various file system errors, so we would need to re-install SBS2K and upgrade. W 2003 requires that Forest and Domain prep are run prior to the upgrade.
