advice on developing a multilingual web site

I'm going to be working in globalizing our web site. To do this I'm going to be startig from scratch. If anyone has any advice or can forward some articles/web sites that have helped them, I'd appreciate it.

thats way more work then I want right now,
make sure you hit up ups.com, i like how they handle it, same with cnn (only 3 versions though), but seriously this is a big task and is great for a portfolio.

I design a compelte website, then advertise on elance to get it redone in required languages. Cheap as chips.

You need an expert for this, and more than just a translator. Some languages go right to left and totally screw with your navigation. You need a native speaking web developer to address these issues.
