hi there,
i've been having trouble with a workgroup that i am trying to get up and running for a friend's small company. all the machines in the workgroup use win 2k pro and are getting their internet connections through my machine called `server' - which also runs win 2k pro.
originally server just had a modem and it shared this connection in the usual win 2k way which all worked fine and server could be seen on the network and share files with others.
i have now set up server to use its second nic to connect to the internet through an adsl router with a fixed ip address, let's call it xxx.xxx.xxx.129. the second nic is set to use the ip xxx.xxx.xxx.130 which is in the range of fixed ip addresses that i purchased from the adsl provider.
then i allowed this connection to be shared with the workgroup and this then sets the lan nic to use the standard sharing ip address. this all works fine - all the workgroup machines can use the internet and can ping server and get a reponse. the problem is that server can now no longer see the workgroup and non of the machines can see it - he's feeling very lonely.
i have a feeling that this is a dhcp problem - am i on the right track? why would a machine not be seen on the network even though it's being used to provide a connection?
please help, both server and i would really apreciate it,
j
