Hi,

I have a really odd problem. At one of my customers i am trying to run adprep on a 2000 domain. I get this error when trying to run adprep /forestprep.

the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. ldif.log

This makes the adprep to fail. I have checked all event logs dcdiag/netdiag and all is fine. I have never had any problems with this server.

Any ideas?

download unlocker and check wich process is using ldif.log

I had the exact same error message and it was the anti-virus software. Disabled on-access scan and the problem was resolved.

Thanks for posting the tip about disabling the anti-virus on-access scanner!

I got the same prompt as boymarty24 and found some incredibly indepth, registry-altering instructions on how to 'fix' it but I'm always wary to forge ahead without trying some more basic steps first....

Sure enough, your suggestion did the trick! No registry-hacking required!

Thanks again!
